Fire & Smoke Detection Agent

One of the specialised AI agents that make up GuardNet. It watches the CCTV cameras you already own for flame and smoke, and puts the alarm in your hand while the fire is still small enough to put out.

Part of GuardNet, not a separate product

This agent runs inside the GuardNet desktop client, alongside the Common Detector for people and vehicles and the Behavioural Detection Agent. There is nothing extra to install — GuardNet downloads it and its updates automatically. And like the rest of GuardNet it works entirely on your own Windows or Linux machine: your video never leaves the building, and there is no monthly cloud fee for watching your own property.

What it does

The agent analyses every camera stream in real time, marks what it finds on the live view, captures a snapshot of the moment and raises the alarm. It recognises fire — open flame, from a small ignition source to a developed blaze — and smoke, including early smouldering before there is any visible flame. Because smoke is recognised in its own right, you get a warning during the smouldering stage: the window in which a fire extinguisher still solves the problem.

What your business gets out of it

  • Minutes, not hours. Ceiling detectors wait for heat or particles to reach them and only cover the room they are in. A camera sees the first plume across a whole hall — including yards, loading bays and storage areas where point detectors cannot be fitted at all.
  • Cover you have already paid for. It uses your existing IP cameras and an ordinary PC. No new sensors, no wiring contractor, no dedicated fire panel.
  • Nobody has to watch a screen. Overnight, at weekends, on unmanned sites, the agent is the one watching. A push notification with the snapshot reaches the manager's phone in seconds, so the decision to act is made from a picture rather than a guess.
  • Alarms you can trust. Trained on fire and smoke alone, with filtering for fire-coloured objects that are not actually burning. Limit it to the zones and the hours that matter, so a burner or a smoking area does not alert all day — and your team still reacts to the alarm that counts.
  • Evidence when you need it. Every event is stored in a searchable history with its image, timestamp and camera — useful for insurance claims, safety audits and internal review.
  • Your footage stays yours. All processing happens on your premises. Nothing is uploaded to a third-party cloud, which keeps you on the right side of GDPR.

How you control it

Enable the agent per camera, so warehouse and workshop feeds watch for fire while others watch for people or vehicles. Restrict it to zones you draw on the live view, and to the hours you choose. Tune sensitivity and scan frequency per camera to balance responsiveness against CPU load. The GuardNet mobile app for iOS and Android gives you live views, the alarm history and remote control from anywhere.

Who it is for

Industrial facilities — factories, workshops, paint shops and storage halls, where ignition sources are part of daily work.
Warehouses and logistics — early warning around stock, packaging and charging areas, in spaces too large for point detectors.
Remote and unmanned sites — construction sites, rural depots and substations, running on a small low-power edge device with alerts going straight to the phone.
Any business whose stock, premises or downtime would not survive a fire discovered the next morning.
